Camping with kids?!

We really wanted to explore camping with both Maisy and Maren.  Maisy has been camping twice before, but the last time we went, I was pregnant with Maren (who is almost 2), so it's been a while. We joined up with some friends from Maisy's school and headed down to Pescadero. We camped at Costanoa

We tent camped in the meadow.

This place was great!  They had nice grounds to walk around and some quaint little trees for climbing.

There is a great beach and tide pools across PCH. The girls all loved playing in the water. The adults were freezing, but the girls did not mind at all!

There was a restaurant tent that served Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner, if you wanted it.  They also had a mini playground. The only bummer was, that we couldn't have a fire or cook where we were camped, you had to use one of the many available communal pits.  If that was still a bit too much camping for you, they also have permanent "tents" set up with real beds in them with fire pits right outside the door and if that's too much camping for you, there is also a hotel!

I have to admit, there were quite a few times during the trip that I felt exactly like this!

This is why I am now starting to LOVE my VW Routan "the Swagger Wagon".  The first night everyone fell asleep wonderfully.  Maren woke up around 3 am fiesty and ready to chat and squeal and protest!  I could not get her to settle back down to sleep!!  It didn't help that I heard the guy in the tent next to us ranting to his tent mate about how he'd "Squash that squeeking baby!"  He then went on to just talk very loudly and make innapporpriate jokes.  Maren was quiet for a bit, then started up again and I woke up Todd and he helped Maren and me move to the car to sleep the rest of the night.  I think I got about 2 hrs of sleep that night.  Nice.

The next night we had dinner and smores early and we had the brilliant idea to let the kids watch Finding Nemo in the car while the adults played a game called Cards Against Humanity. (Very funny by the way!)  It kept them quiet, in one place, entertained and gave us some peace for about 40 minutes.  Eh, we'll take what we can get!

That night Maren and I started out in the car, Todd and Maisy in the tent.  Maren and I were snoozing away when I heard Maisy screaming blood murder and Todd at the window looking totally confused.  I opened the door and he handed me a Maisy who was crying and FREAKING OUT!  She had woken up and wanted me and wanted OUT OF THAT TENT!!!  She was like a possessed little girl.  So Maren and I scooted over and made room for Maisy.  I settled Maisy and the three of us girls ended up sleeping in the car and Todd slept alone in the tent.  Thank goodness for that CAR!

The next day we had breakfast at the restaurant tent after breaking down camp and stopped at Lemos Farm on the way back in Half Moon Bay.

The girls had a great time riding the train and the ponies!

As soon as we were on our way home, Todd looked at me and said, we should do this again in a few weeks.  I looked at him and asked if he had just endured the same 2 days that I had...  He has a point, the more we do it, the more the girls will get used to it.  I'm just not sure I'm ready ~yet~
