Two Creative, Easy and Different DIY Valentine's Day Gifts

Two Creative, Easy and Different #DIY Valentine's Day Gifts

Now we have two girls in school settings who are able to show their love to their pals through Valentine’s Day (or Friendship Day- as it’s called here in Berkeley) offerings.  I had planned on both girls making little handmade books to pass as their gifts.  Maren did, but of course, Maisy had a different (and BETTER plan).  She wanted to give out her homemade rubber band bracelets.  I thought I’d died and gone to Heaven.  These little bracelets and rubber bands have taken over our lives.  Now we have the opportunity to unload (I mean lovingly gift) these creations to other families!  I’m beyond surprised Maisy actually offered this up herself. Usually if she makes it, it must stay within the walls of the palace for all time.  So even though today we received a note from the principal saying these bracelets are no longer allowed at school, we’re going to break the law, just this once, to spread the joy that is the rubber band bracelet in the name of love and friendship.

So, here is what we ended up with this year.

1.  Maren’s hand drawn card/book. I made dotted lines for her to follow to create the heart and her name.  She traced over the pencil in marker and I erased the pencil.  She drew her pictures in the middle and wrote her well wishes on the back. “On Valentine’s Day, I love my friends.” I made copies on our home printer, folded them up and then wrote each recipient’s name in the heart. There you have it, homegrown love!

2.  Maisy’s rainbow bracelets.  These fancy bracelets have been in the making since Christmas.  We bought tags from Michael’s and Maisy used her class list to create name gift tags for each of her classmates.  She then matched the bracelets with each student according to what she thought they would like.  We used cute little string to attach the name tags to the jewelry! Happy Valentine’s Day.  Finally a great use for the rubber band bracelets!  Now we are just about out of rubber bands….. How long can I keep from having to buy more??

I'm a part-time work from home, full time stay at home mom to two daughters and an Australian Labradoodle puppy. We are enjoying our last year before big girl school, playing with friends, swapping childcare to get the job done and getting crafty when we can fit it in. We live together in a wonderful community that we are truly thankful for and proud to be a part of. It takes a village and this is ours.
