Make Old Dolls New Again

Is it hot enough out there for you?  Summertime brings sunshine, yard sales and the coveted yard sale finds.

We were cruising a yard sale near my Mom’s in LA and we gave the girls both a dollar to buy something they wanted.  Maisy asked to buy this beat up looking doll.  I totally didn’t think to take total “before” pictures at the time, but this doll was mangey, all dirtied up and her clothes were a wreck.  She loved it anyway.  She asked to buy it, but the lady was so sweet and gave it to Maisy for free.  This made Maisy love it all the more.  It was a PJ Sparkle Doll from my childhood.  My sister had one.

The first order of business was to clean the everloving everything off of this doll and to de-tangle her mangled mop.

We stripped PJ and got out tooth brushes, sponges and dish soap.  This was not working. You know what worked? The Magic Eraser!  These things are awesome and clean EVERYTHING including decades old dirt stains off of dolls.

Next we went to work on her hair.  We mixed liquid fabric softener with water in a spray bottle and sprayed her hair and combed (repeat x a lot), but it worked. She now has flawless locks and is a well loved doll in our home.

All cleaned up and dry! Just like new- except for the clothes- those could NOT be saved.

So, get out there clean your dolls, cruise those yard sales for deals and make your kids happy, cool and entertained without buying anything “new”!

Well loved new dolly.

I'm a part-time work from home, full time stay at home mom to two daughters and an Australian Labradoodle puppy. We are enjoying our last year before big girl school, playing with friends, swapping childcare to get the job done and getting crafty when we can fit it in. We live together in a wonderful community that we are truly thankful for and proud to be a part of. It takes a village and this is ours.
