The fabulous folks at 510families offered the opportunity to try out the new photobook app called SimplePrints. It allows you to make photobooks right from your phone! No more uploading photos from your computer or complicated book layout interfaces.

After the last storybook we made, I asked the girls what topic they’d like to cover in their next book. They answered that they’d like to write a book about a recipe. Challenge accepted!  Since I knew this photobook wouldn’t be heavily text based, I decided we would tell our story with photos only.

We chose a simple recipe from firefliesandmudpies for the 6-Minute Chocolate Cake; took photos of ingredients, the amounts, the actions and then put them in order for a recipe book. Using SimplePrints was surprisingly easy, and with drag and drop and the familiar gestures of an iPhone,  I created the entire book in just 10 minutes. After I ordered, it arrived in about a week.

I loved the ease of use, but I think next time I would make sure to take pictures outside with better lighting.  Since the picture book is 8X8, the pictures are pretty large and can seem a bit dark in the finished product if the lighting isn’t great.  Also, the photos need to be cropped a lot to fit in the 8X8 page format. I will keep that in mind for my next photobook when using SimplePrints.  Other than those two small things, I loved the whole process!  The girls give it two thumbs up.  Maren, at 2 and a half years old especially loves it, because it's wordless, and she knows the story, she turns the pages narrating it out loud.  It's pretty cute.

I love the new storybook kick I’m on. It’s fun for all of us as we document childhood, parenthood and life.  I figure one day, when the girls head out into the world, we can look back and share the treasures of childhood. At the very least we’ll have plenty of photobooks for the girls to choose from when they are ready to leave the nest.

So, did I meet the challenge- do you think you could follow the recipe? What do you do with your photobooks?

Please share in comments, I'd love to hear your ideas! Be sure to subscribe via email, follow on Facebook and on Pinterest so you don’t miss any fun updates!  Thanks for reading.

I'm a part-time work from home, full time stay at home mom to two daughters and an Australian Labradoodle puppy. We are enjoying our last year before big girl school, playing with friends, swapping childcare to get the job done and getting crafty when we can fit it in. We live together in a wonderful community that we are truly thankful for and proud to be a part of. It takes a village and this is ours.
