Veteran's Day With Kids: Donate Halloween Candy to the Troops

Carefully curating their candy donation.

This Veteran’s Day we are choosing to honor those serving in the military currently by sending the bulk of our Halloween candy to those heroes on active duty.  I emailed both girls’ classmates to seek candy donations.  We received a substantial amount of candy that we will ship to a classmate’s uncle serving in the Navy (he promised to share).  This is the second year we’ve done this.  It gives me such a feeling of pride seeing the girls gladly give up their coveted sweets to help comfort others who are fearlessly working so hard to serve the greater good.

This year, I’m also teaching a little lesson about how we are protected by the courageous people serving our country and using these great printables from Teachers Pay Teachers so the girls can express their gratitude for their service which we will include in the shipment.

We also were sure to call the girls’ grandpa who served in Vietnam to give him a big ‘thank you’ and lots of love as well.  They promised to save him some candy for when he comes to visit for Thanksgiving!

I'm a part-time work from home, full time stay at home mom to two daughters and an Australian Labradoodle puppy. We are enjoying our last year before big girl school, playing with friends, swapping childcare to get the job done and getting crafty when we can fit it in. We live together in a wonderful community that we are truly thankful for and proud to be a part of. It takes a village and this is ours.
